Connecticut Amphibians and Typical Habitats

Connecticut is home to 22 native species of amphibians: 12 species of salamanders, 7 frogs and 3 toads. However, due to their secretive nature many are rarely observed and most people are only familiar with a handful of our most common species. Despite this amphibians are in fact among the most abundant vertebrates in many ecosystems across the state.

Connecticut's amphibians can be grouped broadly according to the following habitat associations.
